‘Lone Survivor’ Debuts on Home Video Sales Chart at No. 1

Variety (June 11, 2014)

School’s out – and the parade of hot new theatricals that enjoyed success at the box office earlier this year has officially begun.

No wonder, then, that the three top-selling discs during the week ending June 8 are all new releases: Universal Studios’ “Lone Survivor,” MGM’s “RoboCop” remake (distributed by 20thCentury Fox) and 20th Century Fox’s “Son of God.”

“Lone Survivor,” which picked up a Critics Choice Award as best action movie of 2014, topped both the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart — which tracks overall disc sales, DVD and Blu-ray Disc combined — and Nielsen’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart. The film, which stars Mark Wahlberg as a Navy Seal who with his team sets out to capture a notorious Taliban leader, has grossed more than $125 million in U.S. theaters since its limited opening on Christmas Day.
